Pizza

Pizza, as we know it today, originated in Naples, Italy in the late 18th century. Initially a simple street food for the working class, pizza gained popularity and became known outside of Naples after the visit of Queen Margherita of Savoy in 1889. The pizza Margherita, with its red tomato sauce, white mozzarella cheese, and green basil, was named in her honor and helped to establish pizza as a beloved food around the world.
